| SPOTLIGHT
ON THE LIBRARY |
| JULY
11,
2005
Balloon Rally Week kicked off on Saturday, July 9 with a spectacular
performance from the David A. Howe Library Book Cart Precision Drill Team.
This year’s members delighted spectators with flashy moves and spectacular
smiles. The library would like to thank staff and volunteers for doing
such a tremendous job. The Book Cart Drill Team helped to make the Balloon
Rally Parade just a little bit more special. Members of the team included
H.M. Bateman, Lois Bulger, Ann Merry, Louann Pawlak, Allison Midgley and
Liz Buchholz.
The good news is Balloon Rally Week has just begun. Many events are
occurring around town as well as at the Library. This Friday, there will
be a tour of the library at 1 pm. Did you know that the building is made
of New England Harvard brick or that the roof is made of handmade clay
tiles? If you are interested in Christopher Wren theme architecture and
design, then the library tour will definitely interest you. Come see our
community’s beautiful Georgian Colonial style library and all of its
distinct features. The tour is roughly forty minutes long and involves
walking up and down stairs.
In addition to this week’s library tour, the library will be opening
its doors on Saturday, July 16 at 8 am for the annual book sale. We have
been collecting many used fiction and nonfiction books over the past year
and we need to sell them. Hardcover books will sell for one dollar and
paperback books for fifty cents. We will also be selling magazines, videos
and audiocassettes. The sale will continue until Friday, August 9
during regular library hours. All monies made at the book sale will
be used to purchase new books for the library collection. Last year we
raised over two thousand dollars by selling used books, we would like to
improve upon that this year by raising three thousand dollars. Help us
reach our goal by buying lots of great used books this Saturday.

| The adult summer
reading program has just entered its third week, and the turn out has been
fabulous. Last Tuesday, we picked our first winner for the weekly prize
giveaways. Ms. Sabre Morabito won a marvelous gift certificate to L’Italia
Restaurant at 275 North Main Street in Wellsville. The library will be
picking 5 more winners for the weekly prize drawings before the summer is
over and there will also be a grand prize offered for the person who reads
and submits the most entry forms during the six-week long program. You may
still participate in the program if you have not done so already. Stop by
the library circulation desk for more details. |
| I know summer is a very hectic time
for many parents. There are swim lessons, summer day camps, little leagues
games, recreational programs and family functions to attend. Needless to say
you do a lot of driving and running around town. The best way to cope with
this extra time in the car is by checking out books that are on CD or tape
from our library. These audio books allow you the opportunity to hear
stories from your favorite authors without having to open a book. It will
save you time and some of your sanity. The best part about be less stressed
in your car is you can focus on important things like driving your children
safely from one activity to another. The library has thousands of books on
tape or CD. Please stop into the library during regular hours to find
something that interests you. Library hours are: Monday and Thursday 10 am
to 8 pm, Tuesday and Friday 10 am to 5 pm; closed Saturday, Sunday and
Wednesday. |
