| SPOTLIGHT
ON THE LIBRARY |
| JANUARY
2004
A review of 2003 shows notable events and record setting statistics.
One highlight was the debut of the book cart drill team during the
Balloon Rally Parade. We spun the book carts, executed different
formations and gave out pencils and bookmarks. The crowd laughed, yelled
and applauded. Everyone had fun.
Faith Sikaras gave $10,000 in memory of her husband, Jim, toward
landscaping the front lawn. Twin Tier Landscaping added new flowers,
shrubs and trees. A portion of the memorial purchased a custom-made
extension to the circulation desk in the children’s section.
Since tax dollars account for only about 25% of the library’s
income, we rely on the generosity of the community to have a balanced
budget. Many people gave to the Friends of the Library, the general fund
or the memorial fund. The largest gifts in 2003 came from the estates of
Carl Alexander, Ella Shear and Sally Thornton.
Habiterra, the architects who designed the new school addition,
surveyed the structure. They gave recommendations on repairs to the
terrace, cupola and brick walls. Currently, the auditorium is closed to
the public because of water leaks. The library is seeking funding to
restore the terrace and repair the auditorium. |
