| SPOTLIGHT
ON THE LIBRARY |
| JANUARY
8, 2002
When you enter the library building, you see the main desk with David
A. Howe’s portrait hovering above it and the staff members helping
patrons find materials. You see shelves filled with books, old and new,
and audiocassettes, videos, CD’s, and more. The numerous computers
catch your eye, as do the seasonal displays. You may see people in each
room browsing the shelves or chatting with each other. Eventually, you
may find your way to the wing of the building that houses the children’s
materials. There, children use the computers and check out books and
other materials of interest to youth. What don’t you see? What is
behind the closed doors in the library? What’s hidden on the upper and
lower floors? You may also wonder who David A. Howe was or who built the
library building. Who was the architect? When was the library built? If
any of these questions has crossed your mind during your visits to the
David A. Howe Public Library, then you will want to check out what’s
happening this year. |

| Each year the
library offers tours of the library building to the public. This year,
rather than only giving a few tours during National Library Week, one
tour will be given each month throughout the year. Led by a library
staff member or volunteer, these tours will show all the places in the
library you never knew existed, and teach some history of the building
you may never have known. |
