Library Budget Proposition - A Library is a Terrible Thing to Waste |
|
Budget Proposition Home |
On May 20th, Wellsville Central School District voters will have the
opportunity to vote for a $55,000 annual increase to David A. Howe Public
Library funding. This funding increase will cost the average taxpayer $13.54
per year in library tax. This is the library's first request for additional
funding since the year 2000. |

Benefits of the Library
Annual Cost Increase to School District Tax Payer |
Over
the last eight years, the library has become a very busy place. Material
checkouts have increased considerably, library programs and attendance have
risen, Internet and technology services have become high-demand and
community events have become part of the library's mission.

Proposed 2009
Budget
2008 Library Budget |
|
Currently, 20 percent of the library's budget is paid for by school district
taxpayers. The remaining funds come from the library's endowment, donations,
grants and fees. Most libraries in the U.S. receive 90 percent of their
support from taxpayers. The community of Wellsville is very fortunate to
receive great library services for such a small cost. If the library
proposition passes, the average taxpayer will pay $36 a year for unlimited
library services. This is less than the cost of one night-out at the movies
for a family of four. |
